Geoff Johns Moves Forward with 'Batman: Three Jokers'

Two years ago, DC’s “Darksied War” storyline came to a conclusion. This event saw long time iconic villains Darksied and the Anti-Monitor waging war against one another on Earth. As this went on, Batman managed to get on to the Mobius chair, an all-knowing floating throne used by Metron. While using the seat, writer Geoff Johns used this opportunity to hit us with some of that back room DC writers knowledge. Batman asked the chair 2 test questions: who killed his parents and the Joker’s real name to which was answered at the end of the series. This is where we learn that all this time there’s never been just one Joker…there’s 3.

That was two years ago and Geoff Johns has just recently begun putting out hints as to where this story will lead. At SDCC(San Diego Comic Con), Johns shared plans for Batman: Three Jokers miniseries under DC's "Black Label" publications with 46 pages for each issue.

If you’re thinking to yourself, “Oh, alternate realities, or time travel, no wait clones!”, then sorry to tell you this but it’s all wrong. Johns is making this story more grounded and that there are just simply 3 Jokers of the same time and same place.

Jason Todd and Barbra Gordon, better known as Red Hood and Batgirl, will help Batman investigate. An interesting thing to note is that the image of the three Jokers shows both “Death in the Family” Joker and “Killing Joke” Joker, two major stories involved with the death of Jason and crippling of Barbra.

A quote of Geoff's saying on his favorite parts in the story:

"There's this really fun scene where Joker drives this truck. He goes to the woods and there's a cabin with a light on and he knocks on the door and there's a Joker standing there wearing a Hawaiian shirt. And Joker says, 'That's my shirt.'”

Johns aims for a Winter 2018 release.
