Batman's Butler, Alfred Pennyworth, Will Be Getting His Own Live-Action TV Series

The cable network channel, Epix, gave a 10-episode show detailing Alfred Pennyworth's life before becoming the butler we're all familiar with. The show will be headed by Bruno Heller and executive produced by Danny Cannon, both of who share the same roles on Fox's Gotham. The show will take place during Alfred's time in the London special forces in the 1960s.

Despite sharing the same showrunner and executive producer as Gotham, the show will not be related to Gotham and will take place in an alternate universe. Sean Pertwee, who plays Alfred in Gotham, will not be reprising his role in Pennyworth.

Epix president, Michael Wright, has stated the following:

"As genuine fans of these classic DC characters, as well as the incredibly talented Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon, we couldn’t be more excited to make Epix the home of this series. We can’t wait to work with Bruno and Danny – along with Peter Roth, Susan Rovner, Brett Paul and the team at Warner Horizon – on this fantastic origin story.”"

In a joint statement, Heller and Cannon expressed their enthusiasm for Epix picking up the show, stating, "Michael and his colleagues have created the perfect venue for original storytelling, and all of us working on Pennyworth are thrilled to be on the Epix slate."

As of now, it is not known when Pennyworth will premiere, as casting has not started yet. It can be assumed it will begin production near or after the end of Gotham's run, which is slated to be the 2018-2019 season.
