Recently Netflix had cancelled Luke Cage and Iron Fist with the fandom believing that Marvel cut the shows to focus on creating the team up show "Heroes for Hire" or to place the shows over on their upcoming streaming service. Well Screen Rant managed to get their hands on viewership reports for the both and had data analysis company called Jumpshot look over the info which shows a major drop in viewership in these fan favourite shows. They managed to learn that both shows lost 2/3 of their viewers after season one. Below is the comparison made by Screen Rant to show the difference between Cage and Iron Fist, and Daredevil
Daredevil season 2: 100
Luke Cage season 1: 92
Iron Fist season 1: 80
Luke Cage season 2: 38
Iron Fist season 2: 29
It's stated that Netflix wanted to renegotiate their deal with Marvel by dropping Luke Cage from a 13-episode show to a 10 episode. Iron Fist on the other hand just can't keep up with the other shows. Jessica Jones and The Punisher are still scheduled for a third and second season coming sometime next year.
This really makes someone sit down and wonder if Marvel's future TV properties will be able to really bring in the amount of viewers needed to be successful. In my honest opinion, the reason Cage and Fist were unable to keep up their viewership is simply because the stories told aren't wild enough. Cage can't be harmed by any means other than someone stronger than him and Danny Rand's first season was just unable to grab enough traction to bring any following to season 2. The idea of the shows going to Heroes for Hire wouldn't had made any sense because of where Cage was at the end of season 2. They became too grounded in a sense. Jessica Jones' personality draws people in while the aggressive nature of Punisher calls attention to the stage; they do their parts well.
